Download Towelroot directly from the webpage and follow the instructions.
Stock zv5
1. Check to see if your phone is running zv5
- Go to "About Phone" in Settings
- Check the last three characters of your phone's "Build number"
- If it's says zv4 or zv5 these are the procedures to follow to gain root access
2. Now you are ready to flash your device to zv3 (downgrade from zv4 or zv5 to root your device)
Several of the files have an MD5 listed below them. You can use this to verify that the file downloaded correctly. Install this hash checker and compare the MD5 of your file to the one listed. (Android MD5 Checker)
Step 1 - Gather materials for zv3 downgrade
WARNING: You will lose data in the downgrade process. Prepare your phone accordingly.
What you will need:
1. LG Driver (click here to download)
2. LG Flash Tool (click here to download)

3. LS740ZV3.tot File
MD5 = 0D7AAAFB6742CEAB7BCAEECBAE3C1F39
Step 2 - Setup your computer
1. Install the LG Driver package.
2. Unzip the LG Flash Tool and place all the files in it to one Folder
3. Unzip .tot file and place it in the same Folder from the previous step (Folder with all the LG Flash Tool files)
4. Install the LG Flash Tool by double clicking "Setup_LGFlashTool_1.8.1.1023"
- Install it to the default directory it chooses.
- When the last window with "Finish" appears make sure to uncheck "Run LGFlashTool 1.8.1.1023"
- Click Finish
5. Now go to your Desktop and find LGFlashTool [A file shortcut should automatically be there]
- It looks like this:
- Right Click on that icon (LGFlashTool) and choose "Open File Location"
7. Now go back to the Folder where you placed all the unziped and extracted files from the LG Flash Tool zip file.
8. Right Click on "MegaLock.dll" from that file in the previous step.
- Select "Copy"
9. Now go back to the Folder you opened using "Open File Location" in step 5.
- Right Click in that Folder and Select "Paste"
- Your computer will say you already have file in the same name existing in the location. Choose the option to Overwrite that file.
- Once you have completed the pasting process, close that window.
10. Now Double Click on the LGFlashTool icon on the Desktop
11. The FlashTool will open and you should be seeing the page below:
With the phone off, and USB cable plugged into your computer, hold Vol + and plug the cable into the phone. (Some drivers may install, allow this to happen.)
Continue holding Vol + until download mode loads. See screenshot.
In Device Manager on your computer, find LGE AndroidNet USB Serial Port (under Ports) and set it to port 41 (COM41).

Leave your phone connected and set it aside for now.
Step 3 - Flashing zv3
Go to the LG Flash Tool: Mode Config window you open before
(note the DLL, S/W, and Action Mode)
If you don't have the exact same files as in the above picture for your DLL and S/W fields then,
- Choose Select Manual Mode
- Click on the "..." Button at the end of the DLL field and choose "LGLS740_20140414_LGFLASHv160.dll" from the Folder you saved all extracted zip files.
- For the S/W field: Click "Add" Button
- Choose the ".tot" file from the same location as the previous step
- Change Action Mode
- to BOARD DL
- Click OK
On the LG FlashTool V1.8.1.1023 window:
- Press the Yellow arrow at the far left corner of the window.
- When it says "READY" unplug the cable from the computer, and plug it back in to start the flashing process.
The screen will look similar to this during the flashing process:
(You can now disconnect the phone and close the LG FlashTool on your computer.
Don't worry about any fail messages from the Flash Tool like the one below.)
- On the MiniOS screen, hold Power button and tap OK
- Then, hold Power button and tap Normal Boot
- Press OK on the next screen that pops up (It will say Reboot? and MiniOS --> Normal Boot, you don't have to do anything)
Rebooting will take several minutes, DON'T PANIC!
If you don't have service, just use ##72786# dialer code to reactivate.
Now that LG Volt is downgraded to earlier version:
- Go online and download Towel root
- Install and run towel root on your phone
- After you follow through the instructions of towel root, you should have gained root access to your phone.
